Kendrick Lamar Releases "The Heart Part 5"

Kendrick Lamar is back.

Finally, after a long awaited 5 years +, Kendrick Lamar released a new single a week before his album, “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers” is set to release. “The Heart Part 5” is the title of his newest single + music visual, also the fifth installment of his “The Heart” series of songs. The first release of the aforementioned series was back in 2010, every installment of “The Heart” has been an introspective sign of the times. Part 5 seems to be related to the “here and now” in reference to Black culture and celebrity culture. In the music video, Kendrick’s face morphs into celebrities such as OJ Simpson, Kanye West, Jussie Smollet, Will Smith, Kobe Bryant, and Nipsey Hussle. Each transition seems to be well thought out as it relates to his lyrics during said scenes. “The Heart Part 5” also uses a beautiful sample of Marvin Gaye’s song “I Want You”.

If this single is anything like the soon-to-be released album, the outcome looks very promising. Kendrick Lamar might shock the world with a long overdue classic project.
